Boasting a purple Plum Crazy finish, this rare classic muscle car has a 400-ci engine delivering 375 hp and hits Mecum Houston 2020 on Dec 3-5.
They might be decades old, but classic cars could be more valuable than a modern drive. This is why until today, sales of these cars still flourish, with collectors willing to pay a good sum for them. If you're looking for a classic muscle, this rare 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible could be a good addition to your garage.
What makes this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible a rare muscle car? For the 1970 model year, Dodge built 76,935 units of its Challenger muscle, 18,512 of which were the R/T version. Of these, only 963 units were convertibles. Further detailing the production figures, 692 R/T convertibles had the 383 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine. The rarest were the nine units powered by the 426-ci Hemi eight-cylinder mill.
On the other hand, 163 Challenger R/T convertibles were served by the 440-ci engine and 129 of them were installed with the TorqueFlite automatic transmission. This particular R/T convertible is one of them, with the 400-ci engine delivering 375 hp. When the goodies added to this open-top muscle car are taken into consideration, it's definitely a rare find.
According to the car's sales invoice, the buyer of this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible added front disc brakes, power brakes, a Sure Grip differential, power steering, tinted all-glass windows, AM radio with stereo tape, undercoating and hood insulator pad, as well as Rallye Type wheels shod with BSW tires.

At some point of this muscled convertible's 50 years of existence, it was restored using mostly original and NOS parts. It's unknown whether its Plum Crazy Purple finish was its original color, but the car's exterior seems to be spotless. It now features a 727 automatic transmission with Slapstik shifter as well as a Dana 60 rear end.
Almost good as new, this R/T convertible now rides on new 15-inch Rallye wheels (with bright trim rings) shod with new Goodyear radial rubbers. If you're interested in this classic muscle, it will go under the hammer at Mecum Auctions' Houston 2020 event from Thursday, December 3, to Saturday, December 5.
